📜 Overview & Coverage
Parties: Mercedes-Benz Laval (Employer) and the Employees — Mechanical Shop, Parts, Detailing, Valets & Service.
Membership: A new employee may join the agreement after 1,040 hours (6 months full-time) of employment.
Priority: This agreement takes priority in case of contradiction with the employee manual.
Term: From November 2, 2025 to November 4, 2028 inclusive; remains in force until a new agreement is signed.
💰 Wages & Compensation
Wage grid: New 2026–2028 salary grid (see Annex A) with a 3% increase each year — Nov 2 2025, Oct 31 2026 and Oct 30 2027.
Guarantees: The employer may pay above the grid (to protect acquired wages) but never below the technician's card rate.
Team leaders: $1.50/h premium, plus a 75L fuel bonus when the team reaches 100% or more productivity.
Overtime: Double time for work exceeding 4 hours of overtime in the same day; mandatory Mercedes-Benz training paid at time-and-a-half beyond 40 hours.
Bonuses: Paid weekly (not monthly).
Premiums: +$1/h for work on a Sprinter converted to RV.
Wait time: Productivity cannot be penalized for unreasonable waits (parts in transit, supervisor directive) — an "ATTENTE DE PIÈCES" line is opened on the repair order. Employees must notify their supervisor immediately if a stop is expected.
🏖️ Vacation
Accrual: Annual leave is earned over 12 consecutive months, reference period May 1 – April 30. Weeks are based on completed years of service as of April 30.
Scale:
• Less than 1 year — percentage by month, 4%
• 1 to less than 3 years — 2 weeks, 4%
• 3 to less than 10 years — 2 weeks, 4%
• 10 to less than 18 years — 3 weeks, 6%
• 18 to less than 22 years — 3 weeks, 6%
• 22 to less than 30 years — 4 weeks, 8%
• 30 years and more — 4 weeks, 8%, then up to 5 weeks (10%, 11%, 12%) on higher seniority steps
Choosing your dates: Seniority applies only if the choice is submitted within the sign-up month — April (summer vacation) and September (winter vacation).
Peak periods: Mid-March to end of May and mid-September to mid-December — requests must be in writing and authorized in writing by the department director.
3 consecutive weeks: Possible when the director confirms it is not during a peak period and will not disrupt the department.
📅 Leave & Holidays
Bereavement: 5 paid working days for the death of an immediate family member (spouse, father, mother, child, brother or sister), plus 3 additional unpaid days if needed.
Marriage: 1 paid day off for the employee's own wedding.
Sick days: Doctor's note required for any absence of 3 days or more; medical-note fees are reimbursed with an invoice if not covered by group insurance. Unused sick days are redeemed at the end of a continuous work year: up to 7 days paid at 120% (1–4 years), 8 days at 125% (5–9 years), 9 days at 125% (10+ years), scaled by actual unused days.
Statutory holidays (Annex B): New Year's Day and the following day, Easter Monday, Patriots' Day, Fête Nationale, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, the day after Christmas and New Year's Eve. The department director may propose a modified schedule for the Christmas/New Year period when those fall on weekends — employees are not obliged to accept.
🛡️ Additional Benefits
Tools: $600 per year with receipts; tool repair costs covered by the employer up to $175 per repair (with proof the tool is no longer functional).
Safety boots: $240 per year.
Safety glasses: Prescription safety glasses reimbursed with a prescription if not covered by group insurance (Sécuro-Vision form).
Vehicle purchase: Employees may request an advantageous price through Mercedes-Benz Canada programs.
Oil change: Up to 8 litres of oil once a year for a personal vehicle (requested the morning of, charged internally).
Washer fluid: 8 litres per year for personal use.
After 30 years: Right to work 4 days a week (day to be set with the director).
At 63 years old: Exemption from tire removal and balancing on request (notice to the immediate supervisor 2 weeks before).
Winter coats: Provided every 2 years to Service, Parts and Detailing employees, with repairs and/or replacement paid by the employer.
🏦 Retirement (RRSP)
Contributions (Employee / Employer):
• 1 to 4 years — 5.5% / 8.5%
• 5 to 9 years — 6.5% / 9.5%
• 10 years and more — 7.5% / 10.5%
Lower participation: Employees may choose a lower rate; the employer adjusts its share proportionally.
Calculation: From January 1, 2026, contributions are calculated on total gross salary including overtime, up to a maximum annual gross income of $100,000.
Payment: The employer must remit amounts within the first 10 days of the month; any delay of more than 5 days increases the contribution by 3%.
⚖️ Workplace Rules
Reprimands: When an employee is reprimanded for a task, performance or productivity, the employer must provide the sold and punched hours on the work performed. Any warning must be given in writing within 5 working days of knowledge of the fault. A note in the file is erased after 10 months and can no longer be used.
Layoff notice: Minimum 4 working days written notice, which must end on the last working day of the regular week. If the procedure is not respected, the notice is null and the employee keeps receiving weekly pay until the employer complies. Employees suspended for discipline or terminated for cause are not entitled to this notice period.
Workplace: A mechanical-shop technician cannot be forced to change establishments after 2 years of employment unless it was stated in writing at hiring. Other departments may be transferred only for equivalent tasks and responsibilities.
Personal vehicle repair: One evening per week, maximum 4 hours, on the employee's vehicle or that of their immediate family (spouse, parents, children, brothers and sisters), agreed with the supervisor. No person who is not an employee of Mercedes-Benz Laval may be in the mechanical shop, without exception.

👶 Having a Child

Becoming a parent gives you job-protected leave and benefits. Here's what applies:

  • Parental leave (job-protected): you may take maternity, paternity and parental leave without losing your job — under the Québec labour standards and the RQAP (QPIP) parental insurance plan.
  • Income replacement: RQAP pays a percentage of your income during the leave (maternity, paternity, parental and adoption benefits) — apply before the leave starts.
  • Vacation keeps accruing: your years of service continue to count during the leave, so your vacation weeks and percentages keep building (see the Contract page scale).
  • Seniority and benefits continue: continuous service is not interrupted; check with HR that your group insurance coverage stays active during the leave.
  • Return to work: you come back to the same position, with no loss of acquired rights.
  • Workplace support: you remain entitled to the agreement's benefits on your return — tools allowance, boots, RRSP contributions, etc.

💡 To plan your leave, contact HR (rh@mblaval.com) and apply to RQAP before the leave begins.

💍 Getting Married

You are entitled to 1 paid day off for your own wedding, under the internal agreement.

🕊️ Death in the Family

If a member of your immediate family passes away (spouse, father, mother, child, brother or sister), you are entitled to 5 paid working days, plus 3 additional unpaid days if needed.

🤒 Illness

If you're sick, the agreement protects you:

  • A doctor's note is required for any absence of 3 days or more.
  • Medical-note fees are reimbursed (with invoice) if not covered by group insurance.
  • Unused sick days are redeemed at the end of the year based on seniority — up to 120–125% of the day's pay.
  • Hours of absence are paid as sick leave; worked hours are paid on the next pay.

🏦 Retirement & Seniority

Long-service employees get extra entitlements:

  • RRSP: employer contribution up to 10.5% (10+ years) on gross salary including overtime, capped at $100,000.
  • After 30 years: work 4 days a week and reach the top vacation scale (4–5 weeks).
  • At 63: exemption from tire removal and balancing on request.
  • Winter coat, tool and boots allowances continue to apply.
